2nd Chance Indiana provides career oriented job preparation training to men and women preparing for release after serving time in county jails as a result of lower level felony convictions as well as to those residing in work release facilities being supervised by community corrections following time served in one of our state prisons for more serious criminal offenses.
Research shows that mentoring positively impacts job attainment, strengthens soft skills and work readiness, increases stability during early employment, and increases job retention.
For these reasons, we attempt to pair each student with a personal mentor, who walks alongside them during the 5-module course, helping them to identify potential obstacles and working together to elimate them from their path in advance of release, rather than running head on into them while trying to rebuild their lives. Mentors stay very close to their mentees during the critical period of the first 90 days of employment. They make an effort to maintain regular contact for six months to a year after graduation, and hopefully the duo will form a lifelong bond.
One of our Mentoring Partners is Trusted Mentors, an organization that has been doing this life-changing work for more than 20 years.
